Bermondsey Station
1999
Ian Ritchie Architects
Southwark

Another newly built station for the 1999 Jubilee Line Extension, this time designed by Ian Ritchie Architects. The station sits on Jamaica Road with a single-storey rectangular ticket hall. Inside, an escalator takes passengers down to platform level with a backdrop of elemental concrete walls. The platform area features latticed concrete beams, part of the design to allow as much daylight to the lower floor as possible. Ian Ritchie Architects laos designed a number of interesting ventilation shafts for the JLE project, which can be found behind the station on Ben Smith Way and also on Culling Road.
