Lasdun’s first major commission, a house in Paddington for painter F.J Conway. Conway asked for a house that was modern in spirit and equipped with a studio for painting, with the top floor having a recessed sun terrace with the studio area behind lit by a sloping north facing window. FJ Conway moved on in 1951, and the house was bought by cartoonist Ronald Searle, who lived there until 1961.
